R. McCashin. This aggressive work certainly doesn't sound like a beginning string orchestra piece, but it sure is! It has a biting modal flavor with a pulsing ostinato that provides the energy, and it really sounds harder than it is.
It would make a superb choice for an original, up-to-date contest piece!
